Edison’s Pub is mainly a bar above other things, serving the Tremont neighborhood near downtown Cleveland. It’s a popular beer bar with a host of microbrew options for the craft beer fanatics in the area. The other appeal of the spot, though, is that it serves a lot of foods, notably a selection of pizzas, sandwiches, salads and a few other bar specialties. Until late. In fact, the spot serves food up past 3 a.m. on weekends, and it was clear during my visit of the bar that night that there’s serious business to be made as the local late night option.
The pizzas here are the most popular, and they’re an interesting thing. They come on a mid-thickness crust that is soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside, which makes it fantastic for a, shall we say, late-night appetite to munch on before heading home. The cheeses are excellent, and the pizza comes together well with a sweet sauce, red or white, which complements the rest very well. That said, the whole pizza can be a tad greasy, and it comes out piping hot, so keep that in mind, too. Especially if served in a box, there were a lot of burns to go around.
The sandwiches and wings look the part of pretty typical bar fare, but all told the pricing on the food is very reasonable, all of it about on par with what you can expect to pay at another bar, and on the same track quality wise. I will say sometimes the food can take longer, especially if you’re picking it up.
Service is decent, the bartenders are attentive and quick on the draw to serve drinks, though I haven’t visited during a packed day. The service in the back can be spotty, especially later in the night, but that’s sort of the way things go at places that serve late night food. A shame though, because it detracts from the overall experience.
Cleveland foodies are certain to be familiar with this spot for its prominence in the nightlife that is emerging in a vibrant way in and around downtown. And that’s great. The food comes hot, it comes late, and it comes at a decent price, so those are merits that make it a worthwhile sample.
Recommendations
- The pizza is the best item on the menu, and the specialty pizzas or simple options are all good choices.
- Interestingly, they serve the pizza with honey. I’d never think to put honey on pizza, but I figured I would try it. Turns out it’s pretty good.
- The kitchen is open until late, and it’s pretty popular at that time, so watch out for a line.
