Prems Chennai Delight

Taking advantage of both the Indian expatriate population between Cincinnati and Dayton as well as a nascent interest in good Indian food around this part of the state, Prems Chennai Delight is a traditional sit-down-style restaurant that has a relatively small menu of dishes and a modest feel. Comfortable, respectful, and with a love of recipes specifically coming from southern India, this dive is based on the tasty curries and generous spices to really stand out. Worth a try if you want to learn more about this kind of cuisine.

Amar India

Now with two locations in Dayton, Amar India is an Indian food restaurant with a focus on a more upscale Indian food experience. Owned by Surjit Singh Mattu, the two restaurants complement the group’s Beavercreek restaurant and buffet Jeet India, which is more of a casual kind of location. Here, you’re served by a waiter and choose from a smaller but robust menu of dishes that have a deeper character and flavor profiles. While at first intimidating to sit down and choose from so many kinds of food that might not be familiar, the end result is still a great dining experience.

Jeet India

A prominent Indian food buffet in the Beavercreek neighborhood of Dayton, Jeet India, and its companion restaurant in the south market Amar India, offer a ton of options for Indian food for an audience that is not otherwise familiar with it. The cuisine isn’t what I would consider authentic; the food is more tailored to a western palette but those favorite dishes of Indian cuisine shine through. The restaurant is clean and nice inside, and the food isn’t bad, so this restaurant is a good first step to trying a new kind of cuisine.

India Chaat Cafe

South Dayton has a lot of different kinds of ethnic food, if you know where to look. While it doesn’t make a big footprint, India Chaat Cafe has plenty of options for good Indian food. Set up in 2006 primarily as a carry-out spot, it has attained a significant following, both with the Indian-American community in southwest Ohio, and with those many people curious about a new style of food. This spot makes food fast and does a pretty decent job of it.

Ajanta India Restaurant

A restaurant that serves the south Dayton suburb of Kettering, Ajanta India Restaurant is the local eatery if you’re craving Indian cuisine. Offering a wide variety of dishes from across numerous styles of Indian cooking, this spot is best known for its buffet for lunch and dinner, as well as the full-service high-quality dishes. This place serves only Indian food, and a good many of the dishes you try here can’t be found anywhere else. This spot is a memorable one.
