Platform Beer Co.

408 N. 6th St.
Columbus, OH 43215

With taprooms in both Columbus and Cleveland, platform beer company has a very similar field in both cities – it’s a place where you go to hang out with people, preferably during a nice day when weather is nice. There’s a wide variety of beers to be had, especially as the police tends to prefer experimentation and new flavors whenever it can. Food for the most part can be delivered from other places. So it’s definitely a good place to hang out, and as far as beers, it’s sort of depends on the pallet that you’re after.

A lot of the beers are very unusual. Some I tried:

  • Rosellini: A lighter cider with a strong peach comforting flavor. Good for the summer.

  • Holiday Donut Cookie: This is a heck of a Christmas beer, instead of being overly sweet like it might sound, it’s got a bit of a nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla character. And a bit sweet.

  • Beyond Borders: A saison and a collaboration brew with Taxman Brewing in Indiana. A little sweet, a little rye, and a slight hint of pineapple sweetness to finish off.

  • Caramelicious: A sticky sweet stout with a nice pronounced caramel flavor. Heavy and definitely very chewy.

  • City Boy: This is another lighter beer on the menu, a weisse that has notes of raspberry and currant.

  • Speed Merchant: A white IPA, with a ton of tropical hops in it. A wheat flavor and a 6.6 percent ABV makes this one a steady drinker.

  • New Cleveland Palesner: That wonderful, golden straw color with a malty flavor and a crisp finish.

  • Paranormal Hoptivity: An American IPA with malty and bright citrus notes. A sharp finish.

  • Standard Sour: A gose with a notable softness ad a sweet citrus and mango character.

  • Black Eagle: This beer is an unusual gratzer, or smoked wheat malt style. Smoke knocks you and the beer is thick, almost like baked goods. But the hops are light and the beer retains a remarkable light body.

  • Orange Blossom Gose: Light as an orange creamsickle, this beer has a slightly sweet taste but a light, light body with a lightly sour finish.
  • Fitness Blog: A fruity IPA perfect for the summer with hints of mango and oranges, for a lightly acidic take overall.

The two bars each have a very social vibe, each being a place where you mostly go to hang out and spend time with people. The bars are wonderful in that regard. But what really makes it great is the wide variety of beers you can try here at a any one time. Pick your food somewhere else; a few places deliver to Platform’s breweries in both cities, though they don’t really do their own food. But the variety of beers and experimental ideas is the best part.

Platform is always tinkering with new ideas and flavors and the result is a really fantastic beer. This spot is always giving something new to try. I like it.

  • A flight is going to be a wonderful way to try some of these beers in the brewery.
  • Plan to eat elsewhere or have other food delivered here.
  • A lot of beers come in cans but there are such a wide variety of them that it might be the best way to give a try to what’s new here.
