It’s a community bar serving the Silverton area of eastern Cincinnati, and it’s the kind of place you’re probably more familiar with as a nightspot than as a place to grab food. The Silverton Cafe is huge on the inside, with dart boards, a stage for music, and a bar that’s about a mile long. The place isn’t fancy, it’s more of a local dive. And it specializes in simple dive bar food. Whether it’s playing keno, trivia night, catching the local sports game or just enjoying some free wifi, Silverton residents frequent this place, but I’m not sure it’s worth a special trip.
The menu is pretty simple; true to the cafe title, the place serves sandwiches, soups, salads and burgers. It’s got the bar food favorites, too, though, including pizza, calzones, wings, and plenty of other things to try. The Silverton Burger is decent; it’s a half-pound burger topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese. It’s a pretty simple burger. Sort of unremarkable. At just $6 for a burger, it’s a pretty inexpensive way to do lunch, so that’s a draw. It’s served alongside a plate of chips, or for extra you can get some fries, onion rings, cottage cheese, cole slaw or salad. Nothing on the menu screams unique or interesting.
The bar foods are simple but they taste good. Take for example my ever-favorite test of bar skill, the fried pickle. Not only are these pickles fried without getting soggy or bogged down in breading, very crunchy. Better yet, it’s served alongside a cool cucumber ranch sauce, which is really cool. I’ve never had anything quite like it before. Altogether, though, it’s the biggest innovation the place provides. This is the kind of cafe/bar you’ll really enjoy for a quick bite, but it’s the kind of place the locals value no matter what anyone else thinks. I don’t see it as worth a special trip.
The service and atmosphere is nice, there’s definitely a lot to do here and it seems to attract lots of groups of guys with a plethora of activities. There is a trivia night, there are keno games to play, and there are a bunch of bands that play with an extensive schedule. This isn’t the kind of bar you have to go to just to sit around, this is the kind of place where there is always something to do.
Silvertown Cafe is another one of those places treasured by the locals; where you go not for the food but for the activities. It’s a safe option for an inexpensive bite during the day, but that’s about it.
- This is a pretty versatile establishment; during the day you could probably come in and enjoy the wifi like it’s a coffee shop, but at night there are bands and other things to do. A lot of activities.
- I suggest the burgers. They’re simple and delicious.
- The place seems very popular for its carry-out during the day.
