With two locations in Findlay, northwestern Ohio, Jac and Do’s Pizza is your typical small-town pizza place; a family business offering a pretty basic selection of toppings and attracting people primarily on convenience. Findlay is by far the largest in the county so there will be plenty of pizza compared to neighboring towns. A family business like Jac and Do’s has the best chance to succeed here, and 50 years of business are an indication to me that Jac and Do’s has been a successful business.
The selection of toppings is relatively simple. There are about 15 meats and vegetables. In theory it’s nothing terribly complicated. While this sounds uninspiring, in fact the small selection of ingredients is way above average. The vegetables taste more fresh and crisp than you’d expect for a pizza. The meats taste genuinely smoked, as if they were prepared for a standalone meal. I can’t think of another pizza place which has had ingredients this good. The rest of the pizzas are great too, most are served on a traditional thin crust. It all comes together nicely. Oh and also, the pizza pictured is 21 inches; enough to feed more than a family. It’s not everyday you come across a pizza that big.
There are some other basic pizza place-type options, with cheese sticks, salads and subs. Not the most original of menus, but it does the job just fine. Once again, the superior ingredients make the difference. At the same time, I wish there were more options on the menu; with only a few specialty pizza options the place seems to be aiming for a “build your own pizza” concept. Unfortunately, this means people miss out on a good chance to try the things that really make this place shine. More options on the menu would not only help Jac and Do’s stand out from its many competitors, but also give a truly unique pizza that people will remember.
The service is good, and the pizzas come quickly when delivered. While the restaurant isn’t a bar, it does offer beer for dine-in, carry-out and delivery. Kind of a nice and laid back atmosphere going on there, which I like.
Whether you’re a local or you’re just passing through on I-75 and looking for something quick to eat, Jac and Do’s offers a great product that is worth giving a try. There are several local pizza places in the area in addition to the standard national chains, and especially in a spread out county like this one it’s difficult for a small place to stand out. Jac and Do’s is not your average pizza.
