Flashy and 50’s, Bunny’s Hasty Tasty Pancake House has been serving breakfast to east Dayton residents since 1952. It’s exterior gives a distinctly old-fashioned feel to the whole place. Inside is a blast from the past as the walls are coated with memorabilia of the Rock-n-roll decade. A simple menu offers a massive breakfast selection as well as plenty of lunch plates and diner entrees. This is the type of place where you’ll find regulars who’ve been coming back for 20 years because they love the food and the friendly service.
Breakfast deals abound on the menu, and you can get just about any combination of breakfast foods you want. You can fill your stomach here on a budget; make no mistake you’ll get your money’s worth. Somewhere in that mix is coffee, too. Hasty Tasty Pancake House has great coffee. It’s not a generic kind of coffee either, this stuff is truly above average. It’s got just enough flavor that I enjoyed it black and with some cream and honey. The coffee alone is a reason to come back here and relax.
I should take a minute to note there is also a huge lunch menu, everything from burgers to barbecue ribs. I haven’t personally tried any of the lunch menu items, but that’s because the breakfast stuff is just so good I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to miss an opportunity to feast.
Relax, I might, say, in good company. It’s immediately attractive how low-key the place is. You get a sense you’re surrounded by people of all kinds, and the assortment of “regulars” seem to be friendly, relaxed, and local. This is the kind of corner dive your grandparents visit every Sunday with their church friends. Service here is very nice; I’m embarrassed to say Kristen and I were one of those high maintenance tables that constantly needed more coffee, ketchup, and water. As annoying as we must have been, the servers constantly converged on us with a smile and a steaming hot pot of java. People kept coming back to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. Despite the extensive morning rush, we got as much attention as we could handle.
Recommendations
- This restaurant is a smorgasbord of your biggest breakfast cravings. Come here for breakfast, as soon as you can.
- If it’s too late for waffles and eggs, a sizable lunch and dinner menu.
- I definitely suggest bringing groups to the pancake house, it’s a very friendly atmosphere even your grandmother would like.
