Downtown Madeira is home to a lot of family businesses and small town attractions. The town is just minutes from the major Kenwood commercial area in Cincinnati’s northeast quarter, and it’s a nice change from the droves of major chains and large crowds that mall brings. Coffee Please has stayed in business for years, even when a new Starbucks coffee opened across the street a decade ago.

Reuben Sandwich and Iced Blended Coffee: $10.50

Coffee Please brews its own coffee, and it has a huge variety of beans imported from around the world. These beans are available for sale so you can take them home. Coffee Please also offers a variety of its own non-coffee drinks, as well as a variety of soups, sandwiches and teas. Conversely, you can also order the coffee online. I’ve taken some home and brewed it, and it loses nothing in the transition.

Coffee Please serves its food in a decent amount of time, though the wait can be longer during rush periods. The selection is great and there are usually a number of tasty baked goods (they even had carrot cake when I went in.) The sandwiches are loaded with good food but there are so many healthy options, you’re bound to find something you like. As my companion Leah pointed out, a pickle with the sandwiches would balance out the meal by adding something a little salty while avoiding the greasy potato chip sides.

I’ve tried a few of the different sandwiches on the menu. Each option, overflowing with meat and condiments are served on a buttery grilled toast and come with a side of chips or vegetables. There’s an amazingly perfect mix, every sandwich fills you up without leaving you feeling stuffed or hungry. They perfectly compliment the variety of coffee options.

I can’t say enough about how good the coffee here is. There are a few other drink options but you’ll miss out if you don’t make the coffee the main course in your meal. The different blends from around the world each have very distinctive flavors which stand on their own. My favorite coffee drink is the iced blended. It’s not quite a sugary coffee shake like other rich coffee drinks you’ll find, but instead the perfect mixture of iced coffee and whipped cream. It’s a drink that’s unusually good and Coffee Please is the only place I’ve been to with anything remotely this good. With so many coffee options, I haven’t ever gone to the shop and had a bad experience. You won’t either.

    Was their reuben delicious? :o
And do reubens go well with coffee? Then again, what DON’T they go well with! XD

    • I know it’s an unusual combination but I’d say it was a success here. :) the tartness of the sauerkraut in the Reuben and the sweetness of the coffee actually came together very nicely. I’ve tried the other sandwiches but the reuben is my favorite.
